Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a complex autoimmune disease in which your immune system loses its ability to distinguish between self and non-self. Instead of protecting you from harmful invaders, your immune cells produce antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) and other autoantibodies that attack your own cells and tissues.
This triggers a cascade of inflammation throughout your body. Your body deposits immune complexes (antibody-antigen pairs) in your joints, kidneys, skin, and other organs, causing:joint inflammation and arthritis, kidney inflammation (lupus nephritis), skin rashes and photosensitivity, heart and lung inflammation, blood clotting abnormalities.
The damage is compounded because once these autoimmune responses begin, they create a vicious cycle: damaged tissues release more self-antigens, which trigger more antibody production, creating more inflammation and more tissue damage.
"Your immune system, designed to protect you, has been reprogrammed to attack itself."
Peptide immunomodulators like Lupuzor and thymosin-based peptides offer a way to recalibrate your immune system - to help restore immune tolerance and reduce the autoimmune attack. Rather than broad immunosuppression, these peptides work to restore balance.
